3d rendering - does graphic card increase rendering speed? and the role of graphic card

Does Graphic card Affect rendering speed? I did some tests to prove that a lot of rendering engines in 3d design software depends totally on CPU, and GPU has no affect. In case of rendering it depends on rendering engine in question some of them like Mental ray , vray , arnold totally depends on CPU. and some of them depends on GPU like octane, vray rt, IRay .. we can classify rendering engines into two main types 1. CPU rendering or software rendering 2.
